Fashion Color Fading

Keeping your red bright, and other fashion color tips.

Do you have red hair that's, uh, well...NOT your natural color?? Does is FADE out within a few weeks leaving you RED IN THE FACE??? What about other fashion colors? Pink, blue, purple! These tips will help keep all those colors looking great!

Tip #1: Wash your hair less often. Hair can go 2-3 days without being washed, especially if it isn't overloaded with product.
Dry shampoo can be your best friend and I swear by the Moroccan Oil dry shampoo!!! After trying all different brands and never being a fan, the Moroccan Oil Dry Shampoo has won me over.

Tip #2: Wash your hair in cooler water. I know, I know... COLD is no fun - but the cooler the water the less chance of your red escaping.
You'll notice when I do your RED color in the Salon I will give you what seems like an ice bath at the shampoo bowl!
The red hair color molecules are the smallest and "fall out" of the hair faster than just about any other color, so keeping the cuticle closed helps hold the color longer. Hot water will open the cuticle and cause the color to fade quicker! Cold water will also help direct dye fashion colors last a bit longer as well.

Tip #3: Use a color depositing shampoo or conditioning treatment!
There are so many to choose from these days!
My current favorite is the Tressa Water Colors Collection or the Celeb Luxury Viral ColorWash Shampoos. These shampoos not only cleanse, but they deposit color back into the hair at the same time.
They don’t “Clean” the hair very well, so I always suggest shampooing your hair with your favorite color safe shampoo first, then doing the second suds up with the color depositing shampoo. In addition to color depositing Shampoo there are also color depositing conditioners! Celeb Luxury Viral makes a great one as well as Kenra, and now Moroccan Oil is offering a great color depositing treatment!
Remember to rinse your shower well though, they can stain!! These are all professional brands that I have used and trust!

Tip #4: BEWARE OF HEAT! Flat irons and curling irons strip fashion colors like no ones business!!! The more you use them, the faster your colors will fade! Be sure to use a hot tool with a digital temp gauge and keep the heat as low as possible to get the job done!
